Suggested readings

This is some of the books that I recommend for further reading, either as an inspiration into archaeological and historical topics or simply just for fun. The books on this list will be in addition to the occasional bookreview. Most of the reviews will most likely be found in this list. The list will be sorted after topics and in alphabetical order after authors. It will be updated periodically.

Ancient cities and civilizations:

Tainter, J.A. (1988) The Collapse of complex Societies. (26th printing 2015) Cambridge, Cambridge University Press.               ISBN: 9780521386739

For fun:

Johnson, M. (2014) Lives in Ruins - Archaeologists and the Seductive Lure of Human Rubble. New York, HarperCollins Publishers Inc.        ISBN: 9780062127198

Languages and writing:

Robinson, A. (2007) The Story of Writing - Alphabets, Hieroglyphs & Pictograms. London, Thames & Hudson Ltd.       ISBN: 9780500286609
- This book gives an introduction to the history of writing and several of the ancient written languages. It is a nice general overview of the earliest history of the written language, a nice place to start if one is interested in the history of ancient languages.
